The Center is not a new gym. The facility will ONLY be used for pre-reserved active-duty group exercises led by fitness specialists.

Active duty only, group/unit PT only and reservations needed and can be made through the front desk at main gym. To set up time for sessions with our coaches, see Stella at the front desk of the main gym (BLDG 3037). Call 808-254-7597 or email kbaysemperfit@usmc-mccs.org

Term Definitions:

ME Max Effort — Training at or near maximal intensity to develop absolute strength. Often includes heavy compound lifts performed for low reps.

Dynamic Effort — A training method focused on lifting submaximal weights with maximal speed and intent to develop explosive strength and rate of force development.

TSAC Tactical Strength and Conditioning — A specialized training approach designed to improve the physical readiness of the Marine, enhancing resiliency and job performance capabilities.

Aerobic Base — Foundational cardiovascular fitness developed through steady-state or low-intensity endurance work. Supports recovery and work capacity.

Mobility — Exercises and routines that enhance joint range of motion, movement control, and flexibility to reduce injury and improve performance.

Carries — Loaded movement exercises such as Farmer's Carries or Sandbag Carries used to build grip strength, trunk stability, and total body endurance.

Staffing and Programming

Staffing Recommendations:

  • Ideally 2 coaches during each HITT class (one lead, one assistant)
  • Minimum of 1 coach during Open Gym hours.
  • Rotate roles to ensure balanced coach workload and development.

Programmed Specific Access:

  • Injury mitigation / return-to-duty station
  • Unit-specific programming
  • S&C consultations or training reviews
  • SOP familiarization for new members
  • Program customization

Unit Schedule & Facility Use:

Unit-specific bookings for HITT Level 2 sessions, FFI-led programming, or custom class blocks are available by request. To reserve time or coordinate use of the WARR training space, contact kbaysemperfit@usmc-mccs.org

Advanced notice is preferred for all unit bookings to ensure facility availability and coach alignment.

Class Size and Limits:

NSCA Recommended Coach-to-Athlete Ratios:

  1. General physical education: 1:20
  2. Weight room supervision: 1:15
  3. High-risk/technical training (e.g., Olympic lifts): 1:10

Recommended Class Size for 2 Coaches:

High-risk or technical training: Max 20 participants (10 per coach)
Moderate-risk training with experience athletes: Up to 30 participants (15 per coach)

Factors to Consider:

Athlete experience level (novice vs. trained)
Training complexity and movement risk
Available space and equipment
Safety and quality of coaching
